Alligator darwini
Taxonomy
Alligator darwini was named by Ludwig (1877). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grube Messel Pit (Museum Darmstadt Collection), which is in a MP 11 crater lake claystone in the Messel Formation of Germany.
It was misspelled as Diplocynodon darwinii by Puértolas et al. (2011); it was recombined as Diplocynodon darwini by Berg (1966), Brochu (1999), Martin (2010), Delfino and Smith (2012) and Rio et al. (2020).
