Taxonomy
Schizomeria tasmaniensis was named by Carpenter and Buchanan (1993) [Type locality: Cethana, Tasmania. Specimens examined: C-501 and counterpart.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: C-501, housed in the Department of Plant Science, University of Tasmania., a flower. Its type locality is Cethana Dam, which is in an Oligocene lagoonal siltstone/sandstone in Australia.

R. J. Carpenter and A. M. Buchanan 1993Flower actinomorphic, bisexual, 10 mm in diameter. Calyx 5 lobed, rotate, lobes triangular-ovate, 65 mm long and 2.5 mm wide at the base. Petals 5, bi- or trifurcate, 2.5 mm long and 1 mm wide, segments linear. Stamens ?10, reflexed against the perianth members, those opposite the calyx lobes with filaments 3 mm long, anthers cordate. Disc 4 mm in diameter, margin thickened. Gynoecium present but of indeterminate structure, c. 2 mm in diameter.
