Tristaniandra alleyi was named by Wilson and Basinger (2007) [Paratypes: P40259, P40262, stored in the South Australian Museum palaeontology collection, Adelaide.]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: P40258, stored in the South Australian Museum palaeontology collection, Adelaide., a flower, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Golden Grove - Monier East Yatala Sand Pit, which is in an Eocene channel claystone/sandstone in Australia.

Hypanthium about 3 mm in diameter and 0.7-0.9 mm deep, sepals about 1.1 mm wide, 0.8 mm long. stamen bundles consisting of about six to eight stamens, persistent in fruit; stamens about 1.0 mm long; filaments fused to about 0.3 mm above hypanthium rim. Mature fruit about 2.8 mm wide, exserted to about 1.2 mm above hypanthium rim. epidermal cells anisodiametric with smooth anticlinal walls. |
