Bembidium assimilis was named by Gyllenhal (1810). It is extant. It is the type species of Bembidion (Diplocampa).

It was recombined as Bembidion assimile by Keen et al. (1997) and Green et al. (2006); it was recombined as Bembidion (Diplocampa) assimile by Maddison (2012).
