Ocellaria was named by Ramond de Carbonniere (1801) [Sepkoski's age data: K u]. It is not extant. Its type is Cypraea spurca.

It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Spirosclerophorida by Finks et al. (2004).
