Pterotocrinus was named by Lyon and Casseday (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 986]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dichocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); and to Monobathrida by Sepkoski (2002).
