Taxonomy
Metoicoceras whitei praecox was named by Haas (1949). Its type specimen is AMNH 26415, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Metoicoceras praecox by Kennedy and Cobban (1990) and Cobban and Kennedy (1991).
