Laurophyllum chubutensis was named by Berry (1937). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type locality is Cerro Funes, which is in a Paleocene terrestrial claystone in Argentina.

E. W. Berry 1937Leaves small, lanceolate, slightly falcate, widest medianly and with about equally acuminate tip and base. Margins entire, inclined to be undulate. Texture coriaceous or subcoriaceous, length about 7 cm. Maximum width about 1.6 cm. Petiole stout, its length unknown. Midvein stout, prominent, usually curved. Secondaries stout, prominent, about 7 pairs diverge from the midvein at angles of less than 45°, ascend in sweeping curves and are ultimately camptodrome. Tertiaries obsolete.
