Steganocrinus was named by Meek and Worthen (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 986]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Actinocrinitinae by Webster and Lane (1987); and to Monobathrida by Sepkoski (2002).
