Apodasmocrinus was named by Warn and Strimple (1977) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l Sepkoski's reference number: 251]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Apodasmocrinidae.

It was assigned to Apodasmocrinidae by Frest et al. (1979); to Homocrinidae by Ausich (1998); and to Disparida by Sepkoski (2002).
