Serropalpus was named by Hellenius (1786). It is extant. It is the type genus of Serropalpidae.

It was assigned to Coleoptera by Latreille (1796); to Helopii by Latreille (1802); and to Serropalpini by Alekseev (2014), Alekseev and Bukejs (2021).
