Eustenocrinus was named by Ulrich (1924). Its type is Eustenocrinus springeri. It is the type genus of Eustenocrinidae.

It was assigned to Eustenocrinidae by Ulrich (1924) and Ausich (1998); and to Disparida by Sepkoski (2002).
