Diagnosis

---|---|---|
H. Xing et al. 2014 | Gigantic hadrosaurine hadrosaurid that has the following autapomorphies: maxilla with 62 or more tooth positions, dentary with 60 or more alveoli, and paired exoccipitals with a strongly expanded posterodorsally central shelf that is 2.5–3.0 times as tall as the foramen magnum. Also diagnosed by the following unique combination of features: posterodorsally reflected, lip-shaped oral margin of the
premaxilla with a deep, oval concavity at the anteromedial corner of the bone; no additional foramen of the premaxilla located anterior to the primary foramen of the bone adjacent to the anterior margin of the external naris; prominent, arched ridge along the entire posterior half of the lateroventral border of the nasal, which forms a well- demarcated posterodorsal margin of the strongly invaginated circumnarial fossa; moderately laterally expanded main body of the postorbital with a small and shallow internal fossa between the top of the dorsoventrally oriented, medioventrally projecting ridge and dorsal orbital margin of the bone; jugal process of the postorbital anteroposteriorly broad; strongly concave dorsal side of the paired frontals; long dorsolateral process of the laterosphenoid that is slightly narrower mediolaterally than the paired sphenooccipital tubercles; seven teeth per alveolus in the middle region of the dentary tooth row; and circular distal blade of the pubis that is much more expanded ventrally than dorsally. This taxon differs from both Edmontosaurus and Kerberosaurus in having a strongly concave dorsally sagittal crest of the parietal and a markedly expanded anterolaterally deltopectoral crest of the humerus; also differs from Kerberosaurus in bearing a more gently posterodorsally inclined laterodorsal margin of the maxillary anteroventral process with an average deflection angle of 20°, an anteroposteriorly constricted dorsal edge of the infratemporal fenestra, a strong posteroventral deflection of the occipital condyle, a gently concave lateral side of the scapular proximal end that is bounded ventrally by the lateroventrally directed proximoventral buttress, a slightly higher lateral process of the ulna than the medial process, and a moderately anteroventrally deflected preacetabular process of the ilium. |
