Inyocrinus was named by Ausich (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-l]. Its type is Inyocrinus strimplei.

It was assigned to Eustenocrinidae by Ausich (1986) and Ausich (1998); and to Disparida by Sepkoski (2002).
