Nothofagus cooksoni

Taxonomy
Nothofagus cooksoni was named by Hill (1991) [Specimens examined: LRR1-1081, 1082, 1083, 1385.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is LRR1-1083, a seed/fruit (Cupule). Its type locality is Little Rapid River 1, which is in an Oligocene fluvial-lacustrine mudstone in Australia.

R. S. Hill 1991Cupule 2-valved, valves 6 mm long, 6 mm wide (two specimens measured). Peduncle up to 8 mm long, straight, narrow at attachment to cupules and through to base. A pair of lamellae sometimes present near the base of the peduncle. Cupule valves woody, gaping when mature, free for approximately half their length. Two lamellae on each cupule valve. At least one dimerous fruit present in each cupule, approximately equal in length to the cupule valves. Cuticular pattern unknown.
