Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
R. S. Hill 1991Leaf symmetrical, elliptical. Leaf length 4.5-5.8 cm, witdh 1.2-1.8 cm. Leaf apex retuse, base acute. Leaf margin serrate; serrations of one order, variable in size and morphology between specimens. One serration per secondary vein. Venation craspedodromous or weakly semicraspedodromous, with 16-22 secondary veins arising at a uniform angle from the primary vein and terminating in serrations after a straight or slightly curved course. Secondary veins branch just before the margin, with a weak apical branch looping into the superadjacent secondary vein. Intersecondary veins absent. Tertiary veins weakly percurrent, straight, oblique. Upper epidermal cells heavily cutinized, with well developed cuticular flanges. Venous cells larger and less heavily thickened than non-venous cells and clearly outlining the areoles. Trichomes absent from upper epidermis. Lower epidermal cells thinly cutinized, irregular. Venous cells more heavily cutinized and more regular in arrangement. Stomatal size extremely variable, stomates randomly arranged, but usually confined to areoles. Giant stomates present over veins. Large glandular trichomes present occasionally over veins. Other trichomes absent. Lower epidermis coated with wax, except for the stomatal openings.
