Taxonomy
Oxylobium pungens was named by Jordan (1997). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is RPU 573, a cuticle. Its type locality is Regatta Point - Early Pleistocene, which is in a Pleistocene/Pleistocene lacustrine mudstone/sandstone in Australia.

G. J. Jordan 1997Leaves cruciate with pungent lobes, apical lobe longer than lateral lobes. Venation reticulate apart from midrib and single secondary veins leading to lateral lobes. Cuticle of stomatiferous surface without papillae, stomata not obscured by cutin lobes, two to four unevenly sized subsidiary cells.
