Tetragonocrinus was named by Yeltyscheva (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-l O Llvi-l]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Tetragonocrinidae.

It was assigned to Tetragonocrinidae by Ausich (1998); and to Disparida by Sepkoski (2002).
