Taxonomy
Astarte (Coelastarte) was named by Boehm (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-u K Turo Sepkoski's reference number: 715]. It is not extant. Its type is Astarte excavata.

It was Neocrassina (Coelastarte) by Cox (1969); it was reranked as Coelastarte by Hayami (1958), Hayami (1975), Sepkoski (2002), Aberhan (2007) and Ros-Franch et al. (2014).

It was assigned to Astarte by Boehm (1893); to Neocrassina by Cox (1969); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); to Astartinae by Aberhan (2007); and to Astartidae by Hayami (1958), Hayami (1975) and Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
