Taxonomy
Rhinoceros tetradactylus was named by Lartet (1837). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Aceratherium tetradactylum by Guérin (1982); it was recombined as Hoploaceratherium tetradactylum by Ginsburg and Heissig (1989), Cerdeno (1992) and Lu (2013).
