Taxonomy
Ampelocrinus was named by Kirk (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 660]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Ampelocrinidae.

It was assigned to Ampelocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978) and Webster and Jell (1999); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
