Taxonomy
Subarcthoplites was named by Casey (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-m]. Its type is Lemuroceras belli.

It was reranked as Lemuroceras (Subarcthoplites) by Imlay (1960); it was reranked as Arcthoplites (Subarcthoplites) by Alabushev (1995); it was corrected as Subarctoplites by Warren and Stelck (1960) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Hoplitidae by Casey (1954); to Ammonoidea by Warren and Stelck (1960); to Lemuroceras by Imlay (1960); to Arcthoplites by Alabushev (1995); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
