Embryocrinus was named by Wanner (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon P Guad-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Embryocrinus hanieli.

It was assigned to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Codiacrinidae by Lane (1979) and Webster and Webster (2012).
