Haestasaurus becklesii
Taxonomy
Pelorosaurus becklesii was named by Mantell (1852). Its type specimen is NHMUK R1870, a set of limb elements (humerus, radius and ulna), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is low-water mark, near Hastings, which is in a Berriasian/Valanginian terrestrial sandstone in the Hastings Beds Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Morosaurus becklesii by Dollo (1889) and Marsh (1889); it was synonymized subjectively with Morosaurus brevis by Woodward and Sherborn (1890), Lydekker (1893), Van Den Broeck (1900) and Hooley (1917); it was misspelled as Pelorosaurus becklesi by Winkler (1893), Nopcsa (1901), Steel (1970) and Tidwell et al. (1999); it was considered a nomen dubium by Upchurch et al. (2004), Mannion and Calvo (2011), D'Emic (2012) and Mannion et al. (2013); it was recombined as Haestasaurus becklesii by Upchurch et al. (2015).
