Jimbacrinus was named by Teichert (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m]. Its type is Jimbacrinus bostocki.

It was assigned to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Calceolispongiidae by Webster (1990) and Webster and Webster (2012).
