Lecythocrinus was named by Mueller (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife D Give]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Lecythocrinidae.

It was assigned to Lecythocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
