Metabolocrinus was named by Jaekel (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: O m]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Metabolocrinidae.

It was assigned to Metabolocrinidae by Ausich (1998); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
