Taxonomy
Gyaloceras smithi was named by Whitehouse (1927). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Walsh River [Roma Series], which is in an Aptian marine claystone in Australia.

It was recombined as Aconeceras (Gyaloceras) smithi by Wright et al. (1996).
