Metutharocrinus was named by Moore and Strimple (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Metutharocrinus cockei.

It was assigned to Pirasocrinidae by Moore and Strimple (1973); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
