Taxonomy
Ammonites levesquei was named by d'Orbigny (1844). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.B09769 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Dumortieria.

It was recombined as Dumortieria levesquei by Arthur et al. (1993) and Schulbert (2001).
