Pachylocrinus was named by Wachsmuth and Springer (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 906]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pachylocrinidae by Lane et al. (2001); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
