Palaeocrinus was named by Billings (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde-u O Cara-m]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Sphaerocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); to Porocrinidae by Ausich (1998); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
