Taxonomy
Emilites brownwoodi was named by Mapes and Boardman (1988). Its type specimen is SUI 53122, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TXV-49 Mapes , which is in a Virgilian marine shale in the Caddo Creek Formation of Texas.
