Dunbarites boardmani was named by Work and Mapes (2009). Its type specimen is SUI 54880, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is TXV-49 Mapes , which is in a Virgilian marine shale in the Caddo Creek Formation of Texas.
