Plicodendrocrinus was named by Brower (1995) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-m O Ashg-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Dendrocrinus casei. It is the type genus of Plicodendrocrinidae.
It was assigned to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); to Plicodendrocrinidae by Ausich and Copper (2010); and to Dendrocrinidae by Ausich (1998) and Wright et al. (2019).
