Nautilus rotundus was named by Crick (1898). Its type specimen is BMNH C.3181, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Cenoceras rotundum by Kummel (1956); it was recombined as Eutrephoceras rotundum by Tinant (1987).
