Taxonomy
Nautilus subrotundus was named by Crick (1898). Its type specimen is BMNH C.3183, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sherborne, Sauzei zone, which is in a Sauzei marine horizon in the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Cenoceras subrotundus by Kummel (1956); it was recombined as Eutrephoceras subrotundum by Tinant (1987).
