Nautilus leonicensis was named by de Zigno (1881). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monte Duello, which is in a Bartonian marine limestone in the Orizzonte di RoncĂ Formation of Italy.
It was recombined as Cimomia leonicensis by Kummel (1956).
