Nautilus cenomanensis was named by Schluter (1876).

It was recombined as Cymatoceras cenomanensis by Kummel (1956); it was recombined as Pseudocenoceras cenomanense by Wittler et al. (1999); it was recombined as Cymatoceras cenomanense by Wittler et al. (1999).
