Spheniscocrinus was named by Wanner (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon P Guad-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ampelocrinidae by Webster and Jell (1992) and Webster and Jell (1999); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
