Taxonomy
Sycocrinites was named by Austin (1842) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 906]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Sycocrinitidae.

It was corrected as Sycocrinus by Zittel (1880).

It was assigned to Crinoidea by Zittel (1880); to Sycocrinitidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Codiacrinidae by Webster and Webster (2012).
