Thenarocrinus was named by Bather (1890) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Thenarocrinidae.

It was assigned to Thenarocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
