Pectinites gigas was named by Schlotheim (1813) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene; Iran.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Amussiopecten gigas by Schaffer (1910); it was recombined as Pecten (Oopecten) gigas by Cox (1936); it was recombined as Gigantopecten gigas by Schulz (2001); it was recombined as Oopecten gigas by Schneider (2008).
