Ancoracrinus was named by Webster and Lane (1987) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Tour-u Sepkoski's reference number: 704]. Its type is Ancoracrinus typus.

It was assigned to Euryocrinidae by Webster and Lane (1987); and to Sagenocrinida by Sepkoski (2002).
