Cibolocrinus was named by Weller (1909) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-u P Guad-u]. Its type is Cibolocrinus typus.

It was assigned to Sagenocrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mespilocrinidae by Webster (2006).
