Trampidocrinus was named by Lane and Webster (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: P Wc]. Its type is Trampidocrinus phiala.

It was assigned to Sagenocrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sagenocrinitidae by Lane and Webster (1966) and Webster and Webster (2012).
