Anomites anomalus was named by Schlotheim (1822).

It was recombined as Orthis anomala by de Verneuil (1845); it was recombined as Orthisina anomala by Davidson (1859); it was recombined as Clitambonites anomala by Hall and Clarke (1892); it was recombined as Clitambonites anomalus by Laskovas et al. (1993); it was recombined as Clinambon anomalus by Alikhova (1953) and Kröger et al. (2014).
