Dadocrinus was named by von Meyer (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Tr Anis-m Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Encrinus gracilis. It is the type genus of Dadocrinidae.

It was reranked as Encrinus (Dadocrinus) by Ogilvie Gordon (1927).

It was assigned to Encrinus by Ogilvie Gordon (1927); to Millericrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dadocrinidae by Hess and Messing (2011) and Saucède et al. (2023).
