Pomatocrinus was named by Desor (1845) [Sepkoski's age data: J l J Tith-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Encrinites mespiliformis.

It was assigned to Millericrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Millericrinidae by Hess and Messing (2011).
