Holopus was named by Orbigny (1837) [Sepkoski's age data: T Pale R]. It is extant. Its type is Holopus rangii. It is the type genus of Holopodidae.

It was assigned to Cyrtocrinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Holopodidae by Hess and Messing (2011).
